The Clippers have taken steps to shore up their defensive core for the 2021-2022 season. They have acquired 2002 born Jordan Edwards from Drumheller Dragons of the AJHL for future considerations.
Edwards was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and played through the minor hockey associations in Saskatoon dominating at all levels. He ended up being drafted 30th overall in the 2017 SJHL Bantam draft by the Notre Dame Hounds but opted to play for the Phoenix Junior Coyotes U18 program and then in the AJHL last year. Instrumental in the trade to the Clippers from the AJHL is the fact that his parents and relatives are residing in Nanaimo, bringing a local flavour to the team.
Darren Naylor, GM and Head Coach indicated; “Jordan will be an important part of our defence corp for the coming year. He’s 6 foot 3 inches and is filling out to be a big body defenceman at the backend. He’s a late bloomer and has been progressing nicely in the last few years giving me all the optimism that he will be the hard as nails, stay at home defenceman that we were missing last season. Jordan will definitely bring a physicality to the backend of our team this year, a much-needed piece of the puzzle to a championship.”
Wes Mussio, owner of the Clippers added; “We’re excited to add Jordan to our roster for the 2021-2022 season. Not only is he a local player as his parents and relatives live in the city, but also he adds a tough to play against mentality in the backend. I thought our defence corps last year was too easy to play against allowing too much time and space for the opposing elite level players and that showed on the scoresheet. Adding Jordan will tighten up the D zone and stop the freewheeling of the opposing teams’ player that we saw way too often last year.”
