The Nanaimo Clippers have added size on their front end with the acquisition of Matteo Turrin from the Victoria Grizzlies for future considerations. Turrin is a big body physical forward at 6’5” and weighing 245 pounds. The 2002 born forward is from Montréal, Québec. In his rookie year with the Victoria Grizzlies, he had four points in 14 games during the Pod Season.
Head Coach and GM Darren Naylor offered; “Matteo is a player I remembered from last year and when he became available, I knew he belonged in a Clipper uniform. Matteo is an intimidating player who teams will take notice of immediately. He is a great skater and has good hands along with a fierce compete level. The style of play we incorporate with the Clippers will see Matteo’s game rise to the next level so we are happy to have him on our team this season.”
Wes Mussio, President of the Nanaimo Clippers, added; “Coach Naylor brings a little bit of WHL physical style to his teams with some big body intimidation to slow down the small-skilled players around the BCHL. We jumped on getting Matteo, when he became available, as his size and style of play is part of our want list for a Naylor style team. We expect to use Matteo a lot in a shutdown role but also expect to give him plenty of offensive opportunities as it will be difficult to stop a player like this that’s crashing towards the net and getting in the greasy areas. We are very optimistic Matteo will have a breakout year for the Clippers in a much increased role over last year’s experience.”
