Clippers add Experienced Hockey Executive Tyler King to front office

Nanaimo, B.C. (June 21, 2024) – The Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL have appointed Tyler King as Vice President, Business Operations, the team announced today.

King joins the organization after leading the business operations of multiple successful junior franchises over the past twelve years.

“I am excited and honored to be joining a storied franchise in Nanaimo,” King said. “I’m grateful to Brad Kwong and the ownership group for affording me this opportunity to help fuel the continued growth of the Clipper organization with a view to creating an unmatched and modern brand.”

“After speaking to those involved with the Clippers, it was clear our visions are closely aligned, and I’m looking forward to accomplishing great things with the existing team of passionate hockey professionals here.”

Most recently, King spent four seasons with the Okotoks Oilers, one of the newest members of the BCHL, as Assistant General Manager, Business Operations, helping the team set new records for attendance and corporate partnerships while significantly elevating its digital brand and game day experience.

“Tyler brings a lengthy resume in hockey and in particular junior hockey in markets similar to Nanaimo,” stated Brad Kwong, Managing Partner. “When we spoke to him initially, it was clear he had the vision, the knowledge, and the experience to help grow the Clippers’ brand and business.”

“We believe he’ll bring fresh, new ideas and the energy to invigorate the community to help grow our fanbase.”

Previously, King worked for Hockey Canada, serving as Logistics Manager for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships and overseeing off-ice planning for teams that competed in the bubble in Edmonton, Alberta. In addition, he spent four seasons with the Brooks Bandits, now a BCHL member, climbing to the rank of business manager and overseeing the team’s marketing, game day operations, broadcasting, and digital media.

His time in junior hockey began in Fort McMurray, where he served as Communications Manager for the Oil Barons, helping to implement the first video scoreboard in a Junior A rink in Canada.

King’s appointment adds to an already strong front office, including Robb Hunter, Director of Business Operations, and recent addition Rikki Thompson, Manager of Ticket Sales and Fan Experience.

Kwong added: “The addition of Tyler complements the existing skill set of our front office and creates a team of executives that have the ability to do great things to help enhance the Clippers’ impact and presence in the Nanaimo community.”
