The Nanaimo Clippers are thrilled to announce the commitment of Ryan Shaw for the 2023-24 season. Shaw is a talented left-shot winger from East Longmeadow, Massachusetts, known for his speed, agility, and accurate shot.
Head coach Colin Birkas has expressed his enthusiasm for Shaw’s addition to the team, stating, “He’s a very smart player that will adjust well to the BCHL. He has good hands and sees the ice well. We expect him to be an impact player. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
When asked why he chose Nanaimo, Shaw said, “I was looked at by a couple teams and Nanaimo stood out. I spoke with Murtagh, and he had nothing but great things to say about Colin and the organization.”
In addition to Shaw’s skill on the ice, he benefits from the support of experienced coaches during the offseason. Patrick Tabb of the Olympic Hockey Academy runs Shaw’s summer skills program, which provides him with specialized training to help improve his on-ice abilities in preparation for the upcoming season. Chris Ferrara, Shaw’s strength and conditioning coach, provides further expertise and guidance that have helped Shaw build the physical strength and stamina needed to succeed at the next level.
Shaw’s commitment to improving his skills and physical fitness during the offseason is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and passion for the game. These efforts have paid off during the season, where he has scored an impressive 14 goals and recorded 23 assists in just 22 games played, bringing his total points to 37 and making him one of the team’s top scorers. He has an outstanding 1.68 points per game average, highlighting his exceptional talent and potential for success at higher levels of play.
Shaw is excited to join the Nanaimo Clippers in September and looks forward to meeting his teammates and developing his game. “‘I’m grateful for the opportunity. I’m excited to get going, meet the boys, and develop my game,” he said.
